Our Story

As humanity faces the multiple challenges of the twenty-first century and beyond, the field of regenerative agriculture has emerged as a remarkably promising and positive path forward. Focusing on bio-mimicry and soil health, regenerative practices work with, rather than against nature, with a surprising array of resulting benefits.

Nutrient quality of crops and livestock products, resiliency in the face of extreme weather events including both droughts and floods, resistance to plant pests and diseases, and economic viability due to the reduction of synthetic inputs are all improved through regenerative methods. A broad coalition of farmers, educators, and advocates has formed around harnessing the power of natural processes to create an abundant, just, and responsible future for ourselves and the generations to come.

At Hiwassee Products, we’ve assembled a team of design engineers and experienced fabricators to address the need for scalable equipment built around processes that regenerate soil ecosystems, such as vermicomposting and the production and application of liquid biological amendments. We’re working with growers, ranchers, researchers and landscapers to develop practical equipment solutions that offer user-friendly functionality, durability, and adaptability in a wide range of fields. We’re building national and international networks and are eager to work with regenerative visionaries worldwide.

Hiwassee Products is based and operated at the campus of the former Hiwassee College, a small Methodist-affiliated college with a 170-year history in Madisonville, Tennessee. “Hiwassee” is a Cherokee word meaning “broad meadow”, and the legendary environmental stewardship values held by our region’s original occupants motivates us to honor their legacy in our work.
